900 mg, here we go
This morning we decided to give K a complete dose of 600 mg. D.P. (developmental pediatrician) met with us last Monday and suggested we increase NAC to three times a day.
I tried to do that, but come the third dose, K would verbally and physically make it known that he would not take it. He will say that he can't do it. And his anxiety would sky rocket. By the third evening of calmly stating he needs to eat the medicine, he cried. I called this approach a no go.
I am still learning so much about our son, I assume every parent feels that way as time goes on. This is a moment where our son, who struggles to communicate, was making his voice, his feelings, known. He was acting out, be it screaming or hitting. He was using his words and then his emotions, just like anyone else would. A breakthrough moment indeed. Sad and proud mama, but I'll take it.
He had an endoscopy scheduled Friday morning and I took advantage of the fasting requirement by giving K a break with NAC. After discussing what to do with my husband, we both agreed to try the method we began today, 600 mg in the morning and 300 mg in the evening.
So far, he seems to be reacting okay. Covering his ears often though.
