The Specialists

Annoyed.

Well, that's how I feel. There is this unnecessary power struggle and it is not between our child and us. It is between his specialists. The ones who have a bunch of letters following their surname. The ones who we, the parents, trust and rely on while hoping for some relief, maybe even a sensible answer.

When you disagree, you disagree. Simple.

But when you disagree over the mental health of a child and neglect to offer the kind of help that his entire network is seeking, well then I guess it is about time to flip that bird.

You have proven that you are no good to me, to my son, to our believers. You are so adamant that his behavior and well being reflect ADD, all in a single sitting which lasts roughly 30 minutes. I am not counting the first five which are with a very polite nurse who is going over the basics - name, DOB, what are you doing here.

Even after you speak to two lovely individuals who interact with our son on a daily basis, after they provide a very detailed report on his schedule, routine, transitions, academic results, FBA, IEP, you still believe it is ADD.

AND you have the audacity to suggest we receive outpatient speech therapy. Well, all that documentation you need prior to our greet and meet, that white paper-like stuff you did not read, states we already receive it. And we have been, for five and a half years. By the way, he is 7.

ADD exists, so do me a favor and release us from your care so that you may tend to another child who fits the bill for it, because mine does not. And I really wish you would focus on what his challenges truly are, not because ADD looks much better under the diagnostic code for insurance.

Go bill me and f*ck off.
