Round Two - NAC
Sunday marked the first day to introduce the second dose of NAC in K's routine. He seems to be okay with taking it. He continues to go off into his room after he takes it. My issue is whether or not this reoccurring action is because it upsets his stomach? That is the one possible side effect. He doesn't quite understand how to tell us that, via verbally or even pointing. I am at a loss.
We also decided to STOP the Prilosec. Our options are to go forth with the upper endoscopy or to try another version of a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). His behavior was deteriorating as was all the progress he appeared to be making prior to taking it. I feel bad saying yes to the endoscopy, but due to our inability to figure out what is going on internally, it might be wise to complete it and hope it offers us some information. Such as not needing a PPI in the first place, maybe trying a different method of treatment, or maybe not needing to do anything at all in the area.
But if NAC is bothering him, and we are seeing gains, what could we do to replace it? What would cause less troubles in the gut area? I have read a little about yeast, is there a way to know for sure that it is yeast, or that yeast might be the root of our issue? I have a million things swarming around up there in my noggin today. I wish I had a more concrete resource. Not saying his specialists are not helpful. I just wish I had a bit more guidance, a mentor of some sort.
He had issues at school yesterday. Similar to how he used to behave. K would not complete a task. He resisted in transitions. He was irritable. He cried. He came through and laid there saying he was tired. Once the episode passed, he continued on his day like nothing ever happened. We've worked on all of this and it looked like he was past all that. I feel bad knowing he relapsed.
